Diabetes is expected to increase up to 700 million people worldwide with type 2 diabetes being the most frequent. The use of nutritional interventions is one of the most natural approaches for managing the disease. Minerals are of paramount importance in order to preserve and obtain good health and among them molybdenum is an essential component. The recent opening of the Plaster Cast Collection of the Department Cultures and Societies at the University of Palermo, after a long recovery and restoration work, is the starting point for some considerations about today’s possibilities of use of the academic plaster cast galleries of ancient sculpture. These collections, since their origin devoted to serve as a help for teaching the history of ancient art, and above all the Greek sculpture, are still worthy of interest. Al contrario dello zolfo, che nel secolo scorso ha avuto un racconto socio-antropologico e letterario notevole, il gesso risulta poco narrato. La stessa documentazione orale è povera di proverbi e canti che lo riguardino. Il saggio raccoglie tutto il materiale che è stato possibile reperire nei testi scritti e nelle testimonianze orali, nonché nell’onomastica siciliana. Il contributo si chiude con i derivati e gli alterati di due voci del lessico gipsicolo: carcara e issu.
